In written Chinese, how do they write phonetically? - how to write a name phonetically
To take Chinese, and I think today, what they do if they only want to write a solid. In general, symbols and words, I would write in a foreign word or name, it should be a kind of consensus on what to use characters, right? What is onomatopoeia? And what's with the name of the new or foreign. For example, we write, Barack Obama and know how to speak English (even if his technique of "foreigners", name), but the Chinese have the characters match, find his name quite close, but still s' Put your own pronunciation, but similar to yours.
Just curious if anyone knows how to do that.

You use the same script that we write decides. The modern system of writing in the People's Republic of China: Pinyin as http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pinyin
Pinyin For example, type the name of the Chinese capital, Beijing (in transcription-old Englishman, who wrote that Beijing).
To obtain more accurate sound that you say that you are also one of four different tones (true, "write") must have, everyone will, so you would type) Bei3 jing1 (pin 1 and yin1.
This system is used throughout China, teaching pronunciation in Mandarin officer in the schools, regardless of how the characters in the local dialect and language spoken, although the same font as varied perannounced another (especially in South China) to mutually unintelligible. Thus, almost all Chinese people know that our Western alphabet, even if they have not studied a language other than their own.
When writing in Chinese on the computer keyboard you also have pinyin, of course, the computer automatically suggests that the Chinese characters used to select (and lists, if you do not want to) the first suggestion.
When it comes to foreign names is more complicated, because the Chinese language does not contain the same sounds, as our Western languages. That is, they have some sounds in a position to choose means to create their own system (which is that you can not write, & quot; groups of consonants without vowels between consonants, like a Chinese syllable is a single final consonant or a vowel or start-n-ng-r). This makes for example the English names very difficult to recognize when you hear Chinese speak.莎士比尔An example of this [Shi-Sha-pi-he does not] suspect's age Shakespear's good if you do not know before ...
Barack Obama is written巴拉克奥巴马(or ke ba ba ma).
Edit: Re: yahknot
I asked my wife about this, because he is Chinese, and earned a masters of ancient Chinese / Chinese-language history of a major university in China, but unfortunately it did not know anything about the system that you mention. She said she thinks orEY have no writing at all for the debate, but had to rely on good pronunciation training.
However, they said that some Chinese now are trying to learn to speak English, like that which explains why it is sometimes difficult to learn than Langauge, might try to talk ... ;)
Although Pinyin is useful to show how to speak Chinese, do nothing with regard to the choice of foreign names. (For the sounds, the characters ... not just sending them individual letters)
Therefore, the assumptions are correct, the Chinese, who have to choose the character with syllables that sound similar to the name ...
Thus, Barack Obama would sound something like "Ba-la-ke Ou-ba-ma." And so the characters do not really mind if they are together. It is assumed they are for classification (if not removed can also individually, have their own special meaning.)
I suppose, "juexue" is correct in relation to the modern era.
However, I thought I read that sometimes in these days before the Latin alphabet is known that some Chinese characters and are often combined to give the words that he did not pronounce ideogram. I think that has any type of stroke and the signs are in a way that the reader will be aware.
What I remember is something like the spelling of a word using the phonetic alphabet:
"T" as in tango, "E" like an echo, "N" as in November, "T" as in the store =
Maybe someone else can help to "juexue or support before.
And! A - Coffee!
